WHAT WE OFFER
Community Circles are based on ancient traditions that promote inclusivity and respect. Community Circles help develop empathy, break down social barriers, and create a sense of belonging, while also supporting Social and Emotional Learning by enhancing emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. Restorative circles are a foundation used for Restorative Justice.
Students can act as mediators to resolve peer disputes involving issues like bullying, misunderstandings, and fights. Peer mediation programs in schools help students connect and resolve conflicts in ways adults might not, reducing the need for disciplinary actions and improving relationships among students and between students and teachers.
Akamai Skills are important social skills that help young people interact well with others and succeed both academically and socially. These skills include active listening to understand and manage conflicts, showing appreciation to build positive relationships, making clear requests, giving sincere apologies to repair relationships, and handle conflicts in a constructive way.
The mission of Sources of Strength is to prevent adverse outcomes by increasing wellbeing, help-seeking, resiliency, healthy coping, and belonging. Sources of Strength moves beyond a singular focus on risk factors by utilizing an upstream approach for youth suicide prevention.
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a way of relating to ourselves and others, in the present moment, free of past reactions and thoughts of the future. It is a communication based on ‘being present’ in each moment and creating a quality of connection that gets everyone’s needs met through compassionate giving and receiving.
By learning to identify your needs and express them free of blame, as well as understanding and being present to the needs of others, you can stay connected to your authentic truth and create a life that it is more fulfilling.
Supporting Youth
Our mission is to support youth in becoming effective and compassionate leaders. We provide Nonviolent Communication programs that offer leadership and collaboration skills for resolving conflict and bringing awareness and care for our shared universal needs. We work with youth and those who guide our youth in schools, organizations, and at home.
